Good look at history
By An Innocent Bystander
If you have ever wondered how Ireland became such a troubled nation, this book will clear that up for you. Takes a detailed look at how the crime and violence in this beautiful country began, gives all the names and dates and places of the sometimes horribly violent crimes that took place, and apparently still are. That said, once you reach a point about half way through the book you realize you are seeing the same story over and over, only the names and dates change. The old thugs fall away and new ones take their place, committing the same crimes as the ones before. That part of the book becomes tiresome. Each new chapter heralds in a new godfather and wrecking crew committing the same old crimes over and over. Next chapter, the same, and on and on. I found myself wishing the book would end because I get the same story over and over with each new chapter. An interesting read for sure, but you will never remember the amounts of names and dates you'll be hit with. Author did a great job and apparently his life was even in danger because of the book and the things he was exposing. If you have an interest in the violent life of Ireland, give it a read.
