Great Resource - But Slightly Different Info Then The Course
By Brian Warner
I like the book. It gives a bit more details then the Treppner course, in various areas. Such as fanning the cards out for the 3 and 9 card layouts. This wasn't clear to me in the course material. But she goes into more detail in this book.

The book also goes into more interpretation issues of the large 36 card layout. Things that I dont remember in the course material.

One thing that bothered me with the book though, was changes to the course material. If you read this as a supplement to the course, it gets confusing when it contradicts the course material. An example is the 9 card layout. In the course it says if it's a general question to lay the cards out like:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

the fifth card is always the center. In the book however, she says to lay them like so:
2 3 4
5 1 6
7 8 9

In the course, that layout is ONLY referenced when a question is presented to the 9 card spread and a card representing the question is pulled from the deck and placed in the center. The book however, uses that placement as the norm.

The book has more detail I think (the the course) when it comes to astrological influences and knowledge from the cards.

The book does not go into much detail with formations... like:
House
Reflection
Knighting

For those formations, you should get the Treppner course.

Some gems I found in the book, that are not in the course:
1) in small spreads, if you get a man/woman - then read the other cards as relating to you
2) in large spreads, the starting point is where you find the man/woman
3) in a large spread, if a topic is mentioned, look for the cards between the topic card (card representing the topic) and the person.
4) Scythe represents suddeness (within 48 hours)
5) This quote: "As a beginner you should only remember this one advice : The female inquirer's main person card is firstly The Lady / The Woman, secondly The Snake and thirdly The Child. A man's main person card is firstly The Gentleman / The Man, secondly The Dog and thirdly The Lily / The Lilies.

Treppner, Iris (2013-05-27). The Parlor of Sibyll (Kindle Locations 729-731). . Kindle Edition."

Overall the book is a good purchase, the price is a bit high for a kindle book, considering it doesn't cover all the material in the Treppner course. But it's a good book, packed with info that mostly overlaps the course, but has a few gems not covered in the course material.

Long awaited and recommended

The only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars is that the translation is just a bit rough (but not problematic), and it starts with single Day Card exercises. (Daily draws are generally done with three cards, more cards are actually easier to understand with this system). Still, the Day Cards section is worth having as an exploration of the possible inflections of meaning the individual cards can take on in different contexts. There's an aphorism, a daily tendency, and advice for love, work, and health - and a Bach flower remedy for each one. Even if you don't do Bach, it's interesting to see which plants can be associated with each card, and contemplating the logic behind the connections is a good exercise in itself.

After that come explanations of increasingly larger spreads, all the way up to the Grand Tableau. There's keywords, advice, everything a beginner needs and lots of interesting bits for experienced readers as well. After that comes a chapter with suggestions for using astrology along with the cards. The appendix contains the combo lists.

With all the sketchy (and often downright fraudulent) english language Lenormand "information" that's started to crop up, it's good to have a book from an authentic, familial reader. (Iris's mother taught Lenormand, too.) This book is a great complement to the respected Treppner course, and it can stand on its own, as well. Though it covers some of the same things as the course, it's not a duplicate, only the combo lists at the end are the same.

It's wonderful to finally have this book in English, and it's the best english language Lenormand book currently available. Other than the combo lists at the end, NONE of this identical to the Treppner course other than the appendix, so you don't have to worry that you're purchasing duplicate material. All in all, it's solid, enjoyable, and I don't hesitate to recommend it.
