Excellent book on zombies

This books is zombies from A to Z, by an author who clearly knows his ambulatory corpses.

It contains:

- a nice history of zombies in history and fiction
- game rules for zombies in GURPS, ranging from very old school living zombi slaves all the way to fast-moving infected zombies.
- game rules for massive hordes of zombies in GURPS, too, for when you need to wall the zombies out of your fortress, run them down with your truck, or attack them with your special anti-zombie weapons.

It's a very well written book, and if you game and love zombies, you'd really benefit from checking this out. Highly recommended.

As a result, Qasr Ibrim is probably the best documented ancient and medieval site in Africa outside of Egypt and the Maghreb.

Medieval Nubia is the first book to make available this remarkable material, much of which is still unpublished. The evidence discovered reveals a more complicated picture of this community than originally thought. Previously, it was accepted that medieval Nubia had existed in relative isolation from the rest of the world, subsisting on a primitive economy. Legal documents, accounts, and letters, however, reveal a complex, monetized economy with exchange rates connected to those of the wider world. Furthermore, they reveal public festive practices, in which lavish feasting and food gifts reinforced the social prestige of the participants. These documents prove medieval Nubia to have been a society combining legal elements inherited from the Greco-Roman world with indigenous African social practices. In reconstructing the social and economic life of medieval Nubia based on the Old Nubian sources from the site, as well as other previously examined materials, Giovanni R. Ruffini corrects previous assumptions and provides a new picture of Nubia, one that links it to the wider Mediterranean economy and society of its time.

Mandel argues that slavery reinforced the powerlessness of white workers North and South, and the racial divisions that it upheld rendered effective labor solidarity impossible. Deep distrust between abolitionists and the working classes, however, compelled Northern workers to find their own way into the antislavery ranks.

About the Author
Bernard Mandel was an independent scholar who also published a biography of Samuel Gompers. Brian Kelly is a senior lecturer in the School of History at Queen's University, Belfast, Ireland. He is the author of Race, Class, and Power in the Alabama Coalfields, 1908-1921.
